oops I did it again (part 2)

(or is it actually part 3?)

anyway, I was being VERY martha stewart-y and cooking up a honey-mustard marinated chicken breast to use for DH's lunch tomorrow (plan was tomake him a yummy sandwich with the very nice bread we bought at the bread shop just 2 minutes away from our new apartment, yay!) I had just cooked the skin side, so it was looking very crispy and yummy, then I turned it over to the other side to cook on low heat, and put the lid on the frypan to really seal in the flavours.......then I promptly forgot about the whole "chicken-breast-cooking-in-the-fry-pan" thing for, oh, only like, 2 and a half hours!

the poor little breast had shrivelled up to about my size (hehe) and was as black as the ace of spades. The honey-mustard marinade had formed a 2 inch thinck crust of burn on the fry pan. Man, I thought, I have done it again! BUT, you gotta love teflon pans. I simply ran the pan under some hot water, and a little bit of detergent and the burny gunk literally fell away!!!! So I didn't ruin the pan, just the chicken - I can deal with that. Unfortunately, there is no lunch for DH for tomorrow now. he might have to starve. oh well.

  1. Yikes!!!
I had a food disaster recently as well!! I was making Nikujaga and I left if on the stove too long so all the liquid burned away and there was a thick thick black crust or nikujaga liquids, onions, and potatoes crusted on the bottom.

Unfortunately, my pan was not teflon so my husband came home to me yelling at and crying into the pan! Being the clever man he is he looked up on the internet and found out that if you boil the pan with water and vinegar it will come out. So thanks to him we saved the day! (opps ran on there!)

I guess the moral is BUT TEFLON!!
(Hope your hubs will make due without his lunch!)

  2. I was just about to tell you my story of making nikujaga when I read Sara's comment. No reason to now!! Sounds like forgetting about your simmering nikujaga is a common occurance!! lol

  3. sara, well, hubby didn't starve, but he did come home last night after work with ika-sashi (raw squid) to eat....perhaps he sensed that he might not get enough for dinner if he didn't BYO??

I can't beleive both Sara and Nay did the same thing with the nikujaga! Makes me feel like I am in good company (in a WEIRD sort of a way, lol)
