half-here

I am here (as in - back in Japan, and back in the land of faffing off all day in front of the computer, as opposed to shopping, long coffee dates with friends, sunday roasrs with the family and simply enjoying the great Aussie lifestyle) BUT I am not really here (as in - am in the middle of youchien hunting. Application forms come out on the 15th, and I need to visit schools before then to see what they are like. Case in point - went to one yesterday which was high on my list, only to "see for myself" and realise that it is not what we are looking for. sigh. So back to square one, and researching schools further afield, making times to visit and getting the sproglets out and about to actually visit the schools. Going to one this morning.)

Still not even sure if we will be putting K into 3-year or 2-year program.....

I feel a bit like the John Marsden novel we read at high school ("So much to tell you") but cant see myself blogging for a bit longer yet.

  1. So know how you feel.
We're having our own problems down here too, only we're seriously running out of time. And the fact I could pop any day now is not helping the situation.lol
Hope something works out soon, for the both of us!
Glad to see you back by the way :)

  2. Don't be too turned off just by the look of the preschools. We had only three options in our immediate area so we went with the one that seemed the most together (but still scary for me!) and it has been wonderful. It's totally different from what I would expect in the States but it has prepared my girls for elementary school perfectly and they made great friends along the way. That's really all I could ask for.

    Happy hunting!

  3. Good luck with the yochien hunt.

I am also debating the 2 year or 3 year program but I might not have a choice and might need to put both kids in hoikuen if I decide to return to work (and if we want to buy the kind of house we want I might have to!).

The reason I debated the 2 or 3 year program was because the kids will be only 14 months apart and only one school year apart I could start Noah at a 2 year program and edamame-chan at a 3 year program at the same time thus giving Noah and edamame-chan a longer time to develop an English speaking relationship with each other before entering school. When I told my MIL she supported me and said she would try and help out if I needed a day a week to work or two days but I really don`t think she could handle two kids unless they were both over 18 months (and even then I am sure it would tire her out a lot)

Hope you find a place that suits you and K soon.

  4. Good Luck!! Our kinder for Shou and Marina is pretty blood primitive. The one in town is soooooooooo much cooler. I have had serious doubts about the teachers some times too but the kids are for the most part happy. I wish we had more choice but wonder if that would just make things harder.

Ganbare finding a kinder you like. If I had gone on first impressions I would still be looking after the kids at home. Arrrgghhhhhhhh, god fuckin help me.

    Talks soon.
